CA Jaycees 4th Quarter First Place, 1994-1995

It’s nice to know that I am still doing my passion, writing as a journalist. In 1994 I was following my passion as a writer and won first place in the CA Jaycees.

Dr. Schuller asks:
“What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?”

If I knew that I could not fail, as Dr. Schuller theorizes, I would begin to eradicate the prejudice that people feel towards each other. Through becoming more aware of the differences that everyone has, more respect and tolerance will occur. Removing intolerance towards people due to disability, race, religion, and/or color is important for people to live in mutual respect and admiration of others instead of scorn and mistrust. Thus, through a better acceptance of others, regardless of their differences, more harmony will occur to make this world a better place to live.

Awareness is the first step to being able to eliminate the stereotypes that we have of others. As long as we are able to have a sensitive mind and an open heart towards others, we can start to eliminate the biases that we have towards others because they are different from ourselves. Through becoming more educated of others’ differences through reading and studying history and religion, we will be able to abolish typecasting others.

Removing bigotry towards people due to disability, race, religion, and/or color will be possible through education. Through becoming more aware of the history of people of the world and of the various religions of the world, people will become more enlightened of others’ diversities. Education is the first step towards developing tolerance towards people, regardless of their differences. Through studying about famous/important people with disabilities, people will be able to respect people with disabilities instead of fearing them. Through inquiring about people of different races and religions through reading, more serenity will occur.

Therefore, if I knew that I could not fail, I would happily abolish all bigotry to make this world more serene. With tolerance instead of hatred, with acceptance instead of scorn, and with tranquility instead of war, serenity on earth will be possible.
