Project Love Spreads Valentine’s Joy to Seniors

Local schools create handcrafted Valentine cards for seniors

Project Love is an annual community outreach campaign led by Assisted Home Health & Hospice that brings encouragement, connection, and joy to seniors through heartfelt messages created by local students. Each year, Assisted works with schools and senior living communities to deliver handmade Valentine’s Day cards and notes that remind seniors that they are valued, seen, and loved.

“Many of these seniors are limited in their ability to celebrate holidays as they once did,” according to Natallie Uribe, a hospice care specialist at Assisted Home Health & Hospice in Ventura “We saw an opportunity to bridge the generational gap by having local kids in our community handcraft Valentines for seniors in assisted living communities. Having Valentines made for them brings inclusion into their lives and spreads love through the community. The kids involved in the program also found a sense of joy and accomplishment by spreading kindness to our senior community. The program also aligns perfectly with Assisted Home Health & Hospice’s motto: ‘Hands to Help, Hearts to Care.’”

The cards include affirming messages like: ‘Happy Valentine’s Day,’ ‘You are loved,’ and ‘Sending smiles and kindness.’

Project Love exists because loneliness and isolation can affect seniors deeply, especially those living in care facilities or navigating health challenges. This campaign creates a meaningful bridge between generations, helping seniors to feel connected to their communities while teaching students the power of empathy and kindness.

Uribe mentioned that, “Each year, Project Love reaches more schools and more senior communities. We’re committed to growing this effort annually so that it can touch more lives throughout all of our service areas. It’s more important than ever to choose kindness. Project Love is a simple way to spread love and joy, and aligns with who we are as an organization. Our motto is, ‘Hands to Help, Hearts to Care,’ and Project Love is one of the ways we bring that to life beyond clinical care.”

This campaign takes place across all Assisted service areas, with 6 offices in California from Santa Barbara County to Los Angeles County, and one office in Arizona covering Maricopa and Pinal Counties.

Let’s continue to spread love and joy throughout the year.
